The End of Freelancing?
by Richard Bisset
Does the seemlingly inevitable Temporary Agency Workers Directive (TAWD) spell the end to freelancing as we know it, or can the UK government stand up to the EU?

The UK got an unexpected reprieve from the TAWD as member states could not reach agreement on this highly controversial piece of legislation.

The purpose of the directive is to impose a common set of rules across all contractor and temporary workers in Europe to bring their benefits in line with permanent employees.

March's Survey Results
by James Birtwhistle
Well the results are in (just!) and it's proved an interesting piece of research. In February we asked those employers registered with the site to let us know how we can help in the freelancer contracting process. We were quite surprised by the results.

Less than one third of employers would prefer to be hands off in the whole process and let Freelancers manage their own PAYE and NI contributions. A similar amount of employers cited using their in house payroll services as their preferred option.

Encouragingly for Network Freelance, almost 40% of those questioned wanted us to help with the payment of freelancers contracts. This is really encouraging, as the majority of our members have highlighted their frustration with the time it takes to keep on top of admin, or the difficulties in managing financial contracts when working on multiple roles.

We're acting on all this feedback and we should be able to give you an update on our progress in our next newsletter! Hopefully we'll be able to make the process just that little bit easier very soon.
