The Green Earth Appeal and Food For Thought

On the 7th December 2009, The Green Earth Appeal was privileged and honoured to become one of only 48 worldwide tree planting partners of the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign. The campaigns patrons include the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Professor Wangari Maathai and Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Then back in January began to design a programme specifically for the hospitality industry and thus Food For Thought was born.

The fundamental part of the Food For Thought Programme is that a restaurant is demonstrating its CSR, by giving their diners the opportunity to plant a tree for just 99p. This amount is not per person, but per bill. Through our network of partners, charities and NGO’s we guarantee that for every 99p we receive a tree is planted in Africa Asia or South America. As well as paying for the tree, a part of the 99p is used to pay to educate the farmers about the use of agro forestry, a method of farming which maximises yields on land which has become baron. Another portion of the money is then used to supply the materials to create sustainable tree nurseries which are then used to supply the trees from a local source.

Once the trees have been planted they soon begin to provide food for the communities, fodder for the animals and medicines at the same time is absorbing and offsetting the carbon generated in the growing, supply chain and cooking of the food in the restaurants.

“Give a person aid and they will eat.
Give a community trees and you empower it with food, fuel, financial opportunity and self respect.”

When a restaurant joins the programme I need somebody who can promote their involvement through printed press, online and trade publications. I have not specified pay scale as I prepared to negotiate remuneration for the role.

Can I assume that the role is primarily about raising national awareness on a regional platform?
